Our science topic was started off by getting a visit from a geologist, who talked to us about lots of different rocks and showed us on a map where these rocks came from. We learnt about the three different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

After that, we got to explore and investagte a variety of rocks ourselves. We worked in groups to decide which type of rock they were and had to justify our answers using the knowledge we had learnt. We identified layers, crystals and fossils within these rocks.

This lead us on to learning about how fossils were formed. We watched videos showing us the steps of the process and now know that a fossil can sometimes start from an animals skeleton settling on the sea floor.

We then used clay to creat our own fossils. Here are some we created!
