Heymann Primary & Nursery School

Inspiring and motivating our children
to be the best they can be

This week's books are focusing on the ai and igh phonemes. We are also continuing to get help from Victor Vocabulary to encourage children to learn the meaning of new and interesting words. We will be introducing Suki Sequence to help the children re-tell these stories in the correct order.

The Key Words PowerPoint has all of the important words that the children will need to know from each book. See if you can spot Victor and ask your child if they remember the meaning of the word he is next to. Do they remember how it was used in the book? Can they use it in a sentence? There are also some Suki Sequencing activities that the children will have completed in school attached below.

Monday & Tuesday

The book for these two days is called Rescue in the Rain (https://monsterphonics.com/books/stage-4-sample/ )

On Monday, we will read the story and focus on the key vocabulary as well as using our phonics skills to blend the 'ai' words together. On Tuesday, we will re-read the story and then complete the Suki Sequence activity,

Why was Brown Owl waiting for Angry Red?

Why couldn’t Angry Red take his car?

What was the problem with the train?

How did the monster get down from the cliff?

Can you think of a word that means the opposite of fantastic?

Wednesday & Thursday

The book for these two days is called The Night Flight (https://monsterphonics.com/books/stage-7-sample/ )

On Wednesday, we will read the story and focus on the key vocabulary as well as using our phonics skills to blend the 'ai' words together. On Thursday, we will re-read the story and then complete the Suki Sequence activity,

Which rules did the witch break?

Who came to the rescue?

What did yellow I use to help him find the little witches?

What other words also mean excited?

Why are rules created?

Friday

On Friday, we will look at the key words again and discuss the important words that Victor Vocabulary has chosen. The children will then complete an activity where they have to match the image to the word, as seen in the All Key Words PowerPoint.
