Year 6 went back to the Industrial Revolution this week with a visit to our local community knitters museum. What a fantastic time we all had - dressing up as Victorians and learning all about the importance of the knitting industry to Ruddington . We went inside the managers cottage and the workers' cottage to compare them. We then had a chance to use a machine to knit our own scarves. Finally, we were able to watch how the looms worked with Tom , one of only 19 people in the country who can use them. Did you know at age 10 we would have worked for 10hours a day winding the bobbin on the spinning Jenny ? We had a go for a few minutes and found it very hard. Have you heard of Luddites ? We now know all about them and why they were important to our area. We had an amazing visit to end our Victorians topic.
