What a spectacular week we have had in year 5! The children have impressed us brilliantly with their spoken English efforts (many thanks for all of your support at home with this), tackled fractions superbly in maths and progressed their topic learning about World War Two with a focus on evacuation in readiness for our Friday trip to Beaumanor Hall. During our trip, the children had to learn quickly about what life was like in wartime, with the boys having to hold the doors open for the girls, who in turn had to say "thank you, sir". They also survived an air raid in a shelter, decoded messages to save the country and tackled some ration planning in order to make a meal. Luckily, the foster families didn't arrive so we were able to bring the evacuees back to Heymann!
