Last week, Year 3 were lucky enough to get a visit from Rufus the Roman. He came in all day and taught us so many interesting facts all about the Romans. In the morning, we all went into the hall together and found out where Rufus was from. He showed us a map of Europe and on it were all the countries that the Romans conquered, there was so many of them! Also, he taught us some Latin commands which is what the Roman army used when going into battle. We found out that they were so disciplined and organised, which is why they were so successful.
After that, we went back into the classrooms and took part in 3 different activities. We got to play 2 Roman board games and completed a quiz by being detectives and reading some interesting information. They were all really fun. In the afternoon, we went back into the hall and looked at some Roman artefacts. There were coins, mosaics tile and bowls. Rufus told us how Romans used to wash and go to the toilet, some of the information was a bit disgusting! Then, we found out it was the Empresses birthday and to celebrate we went to the Coliseum. The emperor and empress were entertained all afternoon by jugglers, animals and battles. Only some people were sent to their deaths.
All the children extremely enjoyed the day and wowed us by the amount of effort they out into their outfits. We loved that people used things that they already had at home and even made their own shields and swords. We are so excited to carry on learning all about the Romans.
