Heymann Primary & Nursery School

Inspiring and motivating our children
to be the best they can be

Hey, did you know that this week there is a special day to celebrate VE day? It's a very important event in world history.  You may even be having small celebrations yourself? Have lots of chats at home about VE day on Friday, see what they’ve got to tell you on Newsround. Next week we’ll be sharing some activities. You could also watch this song on Horrible Histories:

Hi everyone!

**NOTE** Miss Handley's video of The Day the Crayons Quit wasn't working properly earlier, but it has been fixed and can now be watched in full on the Stories page.

We hope you are all okay and have had a good week. We all really enjoyed the Zoom meetings with you this week. It was so lovely to see your faces! If you couldn't make it last week, we would love to see you this week! The focus of this week's Zoom meeting is about sharing a story that you have been reading at home.

Thank you to those who are already, but don't forget to send us a photo of your work or any other things that you are up to at home to year2-teachers@heymann.notts.sch.uk. We will then post it on our blog on Friday afternoon for all of your friends to see! Please specify in your email if you do not want your picture to be posted on the blog. We are really missing you all and love hearing from you.

Keep checking the STORIES tab for new videos, there will be more coming your way! You chose Danny the Champion of the World to be your audiobook! There is now a tab on the stories page with the first few chapters. We will be adding more as we go along.

If you are wanting to go the extra mile with your home learning aside from the activities on the mat that we are uploading each week, why not have a look at these websites which have some fab activities and daily lessons on. Or, if you are perhaps having a tricky day, have a look at our wellbeing activities.

BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-and-p3-lessons/1

The Oak National Academy -  https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2#subjects

Understanding and looking after our emotional health (find the well being activites on the right hand side of the page). You could swap an activity on the home learning mat for one of these.  http://www.heymann.notts.sch.uk/page/?title=Understanding+and+looking+after+our+emotional+health&pid=210

Competition time! If you are a football fan or fancy a new challenge, have a look at the 'Football Competition' attachment below. There is an opportunity for you to design your own football kit and/or show us your best football trick (you can enter one, or both competitions). When complete, submit your entry to the competition before 9am on Friday 15th May 2020. It is a great opportunity for you to earn points for our school. You can also download your certificate and have the chance to be entered in to a prize draw!

Finally, we know you all love a bit of George Ezra! For this weeks singing assembly, can you show your parents the Makaton signs for 'Shotgun'? Here's the video to help you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G3shKfVnFs

Take care and have a great week.
