Heymann Primary & Nursery School

Inspiring and motivating our children
to be the best they can be

What a fabulous year the children have had so far. We can't quite believe it is nearly the end of our time with them, and we want to make the most of our last half-term. We have lots of things planned for the next few weeks, so look out for updates on this page as well as emails from the office.

Key dates for this half-term

Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th - Transition mornings. Please bring your child to the reception classrooms as normal on time.

Tuesday 5th July - EYFS sports day - weather permitting

Thursday 21st July - Reception "drive-in" - see the letter below which was in your child's book bag this week.

Summer 2

We are starting this half-term with our topic based on "The Smartest Giant in Town" story. See below for the Talk tasks connected with this and our class challenges.

We are beginning to prepare the children for moving up into Year 1 in September so will be doing lots of transition activities with them as well as some slightly longer sessions of writing or independent work to build up their stamina. Some children find the anticipation of change more stressful than others, and we want to make this as stress-free as possible for them.

Things you can do at home.

Continue to recognise and write all the phase 3 phonemes we have sent home since January. The children are using these to read and write words with more than one syllable and adjacent consonants., as well as write sentences using finger spaces.

Follow the link to find out phase 3 phonemes and tricky words: Phase 3 introduction – Letters and Sounds (letters-and-sounds.com)

Continue to listen to your child read, share stories with them and ask questions about the books you have been looking at.

As you go for walks, talk with your child about the changes they can see as we move into the summer months.
