Heymann Primary & Nursery School

Inspiring and motivating our children
to be the best they can be

World Book Day is Thursday 4th March!

We will be talking about World Book Day on Thursday's zoom lesson and would love for each child to have a chosen favourite book at the ready that they can hold up to the rest of the group. We will then ask some of the children why they have chosen their favourite book! It also links in nicely with our PSHE lesson on Thursday as we will be talking about keeping our bodies healthy and one way that we can do this is by learning to relax and unwind... with a good book!

Watch the video and listen to Mike Payton, a fantastic and inventive story teller!

You can also watch the videos below of the Year 2 teachers reading some of their favourite stories and find out why they have chosen them!

Miss Kavanagh has chosen The Dragon Machine. This book has fantastic illustrations and it is all about the power of imagination. Can you use your imagination just like George in the story to take you places far away, and back home again?

Miss Handley has chosen to read The Snow Dragon. She likes this story because it was a gift to Year 2 from Santa before Christmas, it has brilliant vocabulary choices, it links in with our topic this term 'Dungeons and Dragons' and it is all about going on an adventure!

Miss Whitney has chosen to read The Gruffalo and an extract from Matilda (she just couldn't choose!). She likes Mailda because it's funny and Matilda herself is inquisitive and brave, but she has a strange choice when it comes to her favourite character...

She loves The Gruffalo because all the rhymes make it fun to read aloud and it still makes her laugh, even after reading it so many times before!

We would also like you to have a go at the reading challenge which is attached below. How many stars can you tick off? You might even find a new way of reading that helps you to relax!
