In 2024, we were awarded the Nottinghamshire Dyslexia Friendly Schools Quality Mark, a recognition we are incredibly proud of. The award is renewed every five years following a visit from members of the Nottinghamshire County Council SEND Inclusion Team.
This achievement reflects the strength of the Heymann community and the way we work together; staff, pupils, governors and families, to support every child in reaching their full potential.
The assessors said, “We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Heymann Primary School and were made very welcome by staff, children, parents and governors… The school celebrates diversity well, not just in terms of learning differences, but also language and culture.”
It is estimated that dyslexia affects between 1 in 5 and 1 in 10 people. Dyslexia is a specific learning difference. It that primarily affects reading and writing, but it can also impact coordination, organisation, and memory. Many dyslexic learners also have strengths in creative thinking and problem-solving. Many children experience challenges with reading and writing. For those with dyslexia, difficulties persist even with additional and specific support.
