**New to Nursery in September 2025? Our transition book can be accessed at the bottom of this page**
We will be giving information about our curriculum this September so watch this space.
Hello and a big warm welcome from the Nursery Team!
Your teachers are Mr Hicking, Miss Shaw and Miss Green. We will alsohave Ms. Van Kleef working with us on a Monday and Wednesday Morning and Mrs Warszawa on a Friday . We will also have a student teacher working with us next year as part of their Year 4 placement.
Our Parent Curriculum meting offers information about each of the subjects and how exactly Nursery will work. Please come and join us for this on Thursday September 19th.
We hope you are as excited about coming to nursery as we are! We have a proven track record of creating a learning environment that encourages independence, inquisitiveness and good behaviour in all our children. All our learning takes place in a nurturing, engaging and well planned environment.
Please make sure your child brings a named coat and named water bottle each day. They will also need to bring a bag with spare clothes. For any child still requiring pull-ups please send spares in their bag (not nappies) as well as a pack of wet wipes. Please remember that we will be working in the nursery garden daily so sensible footwear is required.
Each one or two weeks, we will be posting a talking task for you to work on at home with your child. You will find these in our blog page. You can also how the children are doing in our blog and all our exciting adventures.
Towards the end of September we will post our curriculum meeting which outlines what a nursery day looks like and the learning we facilitate.
If you have any questions please contact us via Mr Hicking:

We also have a nursery email we will use when we ask you to send in photos (Families first term, Celebrations between Bonfire night and Christmas, families at their jobs in February and pictures of Holidays in the summer term)

Thank you for your continued support.
The Nursery Team 😊
This term we are learning about ‘what is special about us and our nursery’. We will be learning our teacher’s names, making friends and getting used to the nursery environment and singing lots of songs. Each week we will be attaching a talk task to this page for you to look at with your child at home.
Keep coming back every week and we will add another “Talk Task”.
Thanks
The Nursery Team
Welcome to our second half-term
We have been so impressed with how the children have returned after the October half-term. They have come back with confidence, stronger listening skills and such a curiosity to learn.
This half-term we are looking at the story of Mr Wiggle and Mr Waggle as our Talk for Writing text. We will use this as a starting point to explore journey stories and try and create our own adventures with our toys!
Please read our bulletin for regular updates on our community sing, party days, stay and play and much more!
Thanks
The Nursery Team
Happy New Year!
We hope you have all had a lovely break over the Christmas holidays and managed to stay well.
We will be starting this year by looking at what we did in the holidays and how we celebrated special occasions along with lots of discussion on winter and changes outside.
This half term our topic is ‘Why is the tree outside changing?’ We will be learning about winter and how the world around us changes. In a few weeks we will be reading ‘The Little Red Hen’ and learning how to tell it out loud.
On our blog, we will post our weekly talk tasks which follow up on the things we have been learning about/talking about in Nursery… Alongside some suggestions of things to try at home.
We hope you find these useful. As always- please contact us on nursery-teachers@heymann.notts.sch.uk if you have any questions.
Thank you for coming to see our curriculum page.
We have our curriculum meeting on 03/10/24.
Please find attached a PDF of the slides we used. Any questions you may have about your child’s education or anything you would like to discuss, please feel free to ask or say.
We also have regular parents’ evenings.
Enjoy!
Introduction
If you are interested in better supporting your child’s development in reading and maths, here are a few thing that may help you. The school follows the White Rose curriculum for maths and the Little Wandle Phonics scheme for early reading.
Most importantly, a range of life skills and a passion for reading with your child will be the greatest influence you can give your child.
Little Wandle (Phonics)
During their time at nursery, children will be learning to identify sounds in words and articulate those sounds. Look at the Little Wandle website to find out more. We suggest looking at how to say the sounds in the “Reception Autumn 1” and “Reception Autumn 2”. Nursery age children are not expected to recognise or write letters.
https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/
We have also included all the rhymes that the children learn across the year in our “Reading and Rhymes” section of our Nursery Page
White Rose Maths
For maths, simple spotting numbers, counting in the environment and talking about thing you see will enhance your child’s skills. Maths is a practical subject that can be bought into any part of your day. Try counting objects at the dinner table, using different containers to pour and fill in the bath or describing what lego brick you might need to finish a model!
Here you can find a list of Nursery rhymes we learn across the year. We split them up and learn them week by week. Here is a list of Nursery rhymes we learn and when. You can find videos for each song here.
