On Wednesday we had a visit from Nigel Vardy, a real life explorer!
He showed us equipment explorers use to communicate, and how he sent letters back home to his mum from Chile which took 6 weeks to reach home.
He told us how tinned food was good for expeditions but the tin opener wasn’t invented until 40 years after the cans were developed. He showed us modern explorer food which is dehydrated and you add water to.
Nigel brought in some clothes that explorers used to wear and wear now- we had a feel of the leather boots compared to modern synthetic boots.
