Welcome to Year 5

The teachers in Year 5 are as follows:

Essential information for the start of the 2026 / 27 year…

PE days are Monday and Thursday. Children to come to school in their PE kits on those days. Please remember to also wear a school jumper / cardigan on top as PE tops can only be worn during the PE lesson (not throughout the day).
No equipment / pencil cases are needed from home – children will be given all the equipment that they need and a new pencil case at the start of the year.
Class and school books should go between home and school each day so that children can be supported with reading at home and at school.

Please note that we will try to check these emails two or three times a week and respond when we are able to. If you need to contact school about a more urgent matter, please contact the office as usual.

Autumn 2026

Our topics for the first term will be Biomes, World War 2 and Materials and their Properties. The Knowledge Organisers for these with key information about each unit are listed below.

Homework

Homework will be given out every Thursday to be completed and handed back in for the following Wednesday.
Each week, children will be given a Spelling homework, which will be available on SpellingShed but also via an application worksheet. There will also be a list of spelling strategies which will be given out at the beginning of the year. Children can choose whether to complete the Spelling Shed, application worksheet or whether to practise the week’s spelling words using one of the strategies from the list provided. There will be a test on spellings on the Wednesday.
Maths homework will be either on paper or online and this will also be issued on a Thursday and due for the following Wednesday. Please support your child in completing homework and returning their homework book on time each week.
Children should continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly to keep their recall of times tables sharp. We will check their progress on this and celebrate successes whenever we can.
