Who is a Young Carer?
A Young Carer is a child or teenager under the age of 18 who regularly helps care for a family member. This family member might be physically or mentally ill, have a disability, or struggle with substance misuse. Young Carers often take on responsibilities that go beyond what is typical for their age and development.
Young Carers can be primary carers, meaning they care for a parent, or secondary carers, where they help look after siblings or other relatives.
If you think your child may be a Young Carer, please inform your child’s teacher. This will help us be aware, understand, and provide the necessary support for your child.
