We are all so excited to welcome you into Reception at Heymann. Please see our transition booklets for information about your class.

Welcome

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing more information about our curriculum and routines in Reception. In the meantime, please feel free to email us at reception-teachers@heymann.notts.sch.uk with any questions or comments and we will get back to you.

Please keep returning to this page to check for updates. We will also be updating the Heymann blog with photos of the children and their work.

PE

We ask that you send in your child’s PE kit for us to keep in school. PE will take place on a Friday and children should come to school in their normal school uniforms. They will then get changed into their PE kit.

PE kits should contain:

  • A t-shirt in the colour of your child’s school house.
  • Black shorts or tracksuit bottoms

There is no need to provide trainers in the Autumn term as PE will take place inside. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term.

Weather

We will continue to have windows open to help the airflow. Please make sure your child is dressed for colder weather when appropriate and has a jumper or cardigan. All children have been provided with a sun hat which will be kept in school for them to use. Please send your child to school with a named raincoat every day, as the weather can be very changeable.

Welcome

Welcome to Heymann!

The children have all settled in so brilliantly and are already doing amazing things.

Thank you for all of your support.

Reminders

The curriculum meeting will be in the KS1 hall at 4pm on Thursday the 26th of September.

We are really looking forward to seeing you there.

Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle.

Ensure all clothes are labelled with your child’s name. Especially PE kits.

Once your child has received their book bag, please send it to school every day with their reading books inside.

Feel free to email us or talk to us about any worries or questions you may have.

reception-teachers@heymann.notts.sch.uk

PE is every Friday. Children will need their kit in school to get changed. No trainers are needed until after christmas

Challenges

Every week we will upload the challenges onto this page. These are activities we expect the children to have a go at. These use a mixture of skills and activities to encourage children to broaden their abilities and interests.

Talk Tasks

Every week we will upload the talk task document. It gives you a taste of what they will be doing as well as some suggested activities you can try at home.

Introduction

Here are some short videos on different aspects of life in the foundation unit. Some of these will give you an insight into how we work with children in reception whereas others might be useful to refer back to as your child develops. In particular, the reading, writing and maths videos might help you to know how best to support your child throughout the year.

Please also see PowerPoint attached below from the meeting last week.

A Typical Day

Reading/Phonics

We will be teaching phonics using the Little Wandle programme and your child will soon be bringing home a reading book to practise with you. For more information about how we teach phonics please follow the link below to the phonics page of our website. If you have any questions about this please feel free to ask.

Gross and Fine Motor

Writing

Please see the PowerPoint below which sets out how to form each letter.

Introduction

If your child is in self-isolation for any reason. Here are some resources they can use. These are only to be used if your child if well enough and your whole family has the space and time to do this. Do not feel pressured and please focus on staying well!

If the whole year group is taking part in home Learning there will be a more formalised time table and we will release information on a specific part of the Reception page.

Home Learning Resources

Here is a list of our primary resources we suggest to use.

Oxford Owl

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/

A great website that has books you can read to or with your child. It has books for all reading levels and starts with books without words all the way upto chapter books.

Art for Kids Hub

https://www.youtube.com/user/ArtforKidsHub

Simple draw alongs that are fun and can be done by all the family. Good for listening and attention skills as well as fine motor.

Kids Cosmic Yoga

https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

Yoga the children can join in with. Lots of activities and is a lot of fun. A good way to get some exercise when you can’t leave the house. It also has some mindfulness activities on there for a less energetic time.

Netflix

Story Bots and Team UmiZoomie. Cbeebies(Iplayer) – Alphablocks, Number blocks – all things you can watch that can help with maths and English skills.

Organising your home learning

Try to organise set times of the day to do short lessons. Only do an activity for maximum 20 minutes and two learning activities is enough. Try to put it just after a larger day event- e.g. have a short lesson just after getting dressed, having breakfast or having lunch.

Wellbeing

Make sure to look after yourselves and keep in touch if you need us. Looking after your family should be the priority and don’t do any school activities if you are not well enough. The NHS has some good tips for wellbeing too if they are helpful. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/improve-mental-wellbeing/

This week we are sending home reading books and diaries. If you want to know more about how we teach reading at Heymann then please look on our Curriculum Meeting page.
