Welcome to Year 2
Autumn 2026
The staff that you will be working with are Miss Henshaw (2T), Mrs Sawford (Mon-Thurs) and Mrs Everitt (Friday) (2L) and Mrs Johnston (2P). Other adults that work in Year 2 are Mrs Caines, Miss Darnbrough and Mrs Littlejones. On a Monday afternoon, you will be taught by either Señora Cameron, Mr Arch or Mrs P. We are very lucky to have two teaching students with us this year – Miss Ajaib and Mr Deciacco.
PE
Please can children come to school in PE kits on Monday (Fundamental Skills) and Thursday (Invasion Games).
Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is weather appropriate as we will be doing some lessons outside. They can wear their usual PE kit with their Heymann cardigan or jumper. Your child will need a coloured t-shirt to match their house (these have not changed from Year 1).
——————————————————————————————————————–
This half-term our history topic is “What is Interesting About Nottinghamshire?”
Our science topic this half term is habitats.
For information on the content of our lessons, please familiarise yourself with our Knowledge Organisers below. These outline the key information that children will need to be able to recall by the end of the unit.
What Is Interesting About Nottinghamshire Knowledge Organiser
Please also make sure that children bring a named water bottle and their named book bag (with their reading books and reading record) to school every day.
Please read the PDF Curriculum Leaflet for more information on our taught content, curriculum overview and other expectations.
Please see at the bottom of this page our Autumn maths KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts). Key Instant Recall Facts are what underpin much of the mental maths knowledge that children are required to know throughout their learning journey. KIRFs are crucial for ensuring that a child is able to build confidence and fluency in a wide variety of mathematical topics. By being able to reference Key Instant Recall Facts on a regular basis, they’ll also find the national curriculum to be significantly more accessible.
If you have any questions please email us at year2-teachers@heymann.notts.sch.uk
Take care,
Mrs Johnston, Mrs Sawford and Miss Henshaw
